Summer has just begun and most of have already been cracking our HVAC air conditioning systems to keep cool. Keep in mind when an appliance is running, despite the level, it is costing you money. So even if you keep you air conditioner on its lowest setting, and run it all day, it is still running all day and therefore racking up your energy bill. To save your home energy, keep your windows closed when your air conditioner is off. That way the cool air is staying in your home and you will not have to turn on your cooling system as much.

If you have unused rooms in your home, it is actually best to shut off those vents and close the doors leading to those rooms. Cold air flows to where hot air is. By closing off access to those unused rooms, your air conditioner will work harder to keep the common area rooms cool.

It is a common myth that the lower you set the temperature on your thermostat, the quicker it will cool your home down. The truth is no matter how low you set your thermostats temperature; your air conditioner will not work faster to cool your home. Air conditioners can only replace a certain amount of hot air with cold air in a given amount of time. The temperature setting is not a factor when considering the rate at which your air conditioner cools your home.
