Problems with Your Home Air Conditioner

With great care and maintenance your home air conditioning system can have a long lifecycle. However, there comes a time when your system begins to approach the end of its life and little by little it begins to weaken. Air conditioning repairs may be needed if you are seeing a pattern of broken items every so often. Even though it would be great to save money by doing these repairs on your own when extensive damage from wear and tear is present it is best to consult professional help.

Why you should consult professionals….

- If you are not familiar with the anatomy of these systems it may be hard for you to determine what the problem is exactly. An experienced professional will be able to examine your air conditioning system and determine what part of your system is not working properly.

- Professional tools are needed to conduct the job safely, effectively, and efficiently. Many of the tools used to repair air conditioning systems can be found in the common household garage. However there are some tools that you may not have and perhaps are not educated on how to use them properly.

- Repairmen inspect all areas of your house to get to the root of the problem. They may need to look in your attic, view your filter, or inspect your ceilings to see any residue from leaks in your system.

- Systems located in attics that are suffering from extensive overflow or leaks can cause ceilings to cave in if left untreated for a long period of time.

- To ensure that your system is functioning correctly professionals are able to inspect and then determine whether or not the problem has truly been fixed.

Smart Thermostats

Are you looking for the easiest way to decrease your energy costs? If so, then you should consider installing a Smart Thermostat. Did you know utilizing a Smart Thermostat in your home can save you up to 15% on you energy costs? These intelligent devices allow you to heat and cool your home how you want and when you want. It uses its scheduling capabilities and contains wireless sensors that monitor your homes temperature. It also monitors your homes humidity to help control your entire homes temperature.

Having control over your thermostat and being able to schedule when your heating and cooling system turns on and off, cuts down pointless energy consumption. Smart thermostats have the ability to be programmed for certain times and functions.

In homes with multiple thermostats, the thermostats have the ability to communicate with each other to better regulate the homes temperature. By communicating, the thermostats work together to move hot and cool air between rooms and effectively lowers energy used. In addition to also having the capability to communicate with other thermostats, some Smart systems may also connect to the Web to gain information on topics such as the latest trends in energy costs.

Smart thermostats also show homeowners when their peak hours of energy costs are. Some energy companies or suppliers charge extra when appliances are used during these key hours of the day. By knowing when this time of the day is, you will be able to have more control over your energy bills.

Although Smart Thermostats may run expensive on the price scale they are well worth the savings over time. Contact the experts at CJS Heating for more information on installing a Smart Thermostat  for your central heating and air system in your home!

Air Conditioning Facts

Summer has just begun and most of have already been cracking our HVAC air conditioning systems to keep cool. Although air conditioners are not the most energy efficient appliance, they become a necessity as temperatures rise. If you know the right tricks, you can learn to stay cool and save yourself some cash on your monthly energy bills. Continue reading to learn more tips provided by the experts here at CJS, to help you stay cool and save money this summer season.

Keep in mind when an appliance is running, despite the level, it is costing you money. So even if you keep you air conditioner on its lowest setting, and run it all day, it is still running all day and therefore racking up your energy bill. To save your home energy, keep your windows closed when your air conditioner is off. That way the cool air is staying in your home and you will not have to turn on your cooling system as much.

If you have unused rooms in your home, it is actually best to shut off those vents and close the doors leading to those rooms. Cold air flows to where hot air is. By closing off access to those unused rooms, your air conditioner will work harder to keep the common area rooms cool.

It is a common myth that the lower you set the temperature on your thermostat, the quicker it will cool your home down. The truth is no matter how low you set your thermostats temperature; your air conditioner will not work faster to cool your home. Air conditioners can only replace a certain amount of hot air with cold air in a given amount of time. The temperature setting is not a factor when considering the rate at which your air conditioner cools your home.

Heating and Cooling System Maintenance Tips

All systems in your home require regular maintenance. At CJS Heating & Air, we provide such maintenance services for our customers to help keep their energy costs down and elongate the lifespan of their heating and cooling system. Our unique tune up service is incomparable to other heating and cooling companies. We check and conduct maintenance on everything in your system from your thermostat to the refrigerant levels. Below we have provided common heating and cooling maintenance issues that we can conduct or you can check on yourself!

Filters

Your filters in your heating and cooling system should be checked every month and changed if needed. If you do not change your filters on a regular basis, it could result in paying higher utility bills and cause damage to your system.

Humidifiers

Once the heating season is over its important to shut off your humidifier.  If left on in the warm months of the summer, bacteria and mold can accumulate causing it to be circulated throughout your home. Pull that plug, shut the water valve and drain the unit. A humidifier that has a water reservoir should be cleaned with vinegar to remove the mineral deposits.

Bi-Annual Maintenance

Its important to have your system maintained before every heating and cooling season. It may seem like a waste of money to have it completed twice a year but in time it will save you money. This allows you to become aware of any issues that may arise throughout the heating or cooling season.

Due to the lack of maintenance and knowledge about your heating and cooling system, things such as a dirty coil or filter can mean premature failure of your central heating and air conditioning unit's compressor, condenser fan and other system components. In other words, a malfunction of any component within your heating and cooling system can over-work your unit.

Replacement of an entire heating and cooling system can be costly. So choosing a preventative maintenance plan that best fits you and your system is the best option to avoid replacing your entire heating and air conditioning system.  We have plans that will fit everyone’s needs.

Beat the Summer Heat!

- Cooling and energy saving tips –

During the summer months temperatures outside can reach sweltering degrees. When it's that hot outside we tend to crank up our air conditioning units and stay inside. Although, the cool inside air is satisfying during those hot days, when the energy bill arrives at the end of the month you might wish you stuck out the heat. Continue reading to learn useful tips to practice this summer to cut down your monthly energy bills while keeping cool.

Energy Saving Tips

-    Keep your drapes and blinds closed during the day to prevent the sun from streaming in through your windows. The sun will cause your home to heat up forcing your air conditioner to work harder and use more energy.

-    Make sure you keep up maintenance on your air unit by changing the filters and have it checked regularly. Keeping up with your air conditioning repairs and system maintenance will keep your air clean and encourage your unit to work more effectively.

-    Only run exhaust fans like the ones found in kitchens and bathrooms, for a short period of time because they push cool air outside.

-    Do not place any objects that produce heat such as lamps or televisions near the thermostat. The thermostat will read the heat produced from these objects and will run longer than it needs to.

-    Keep your thermostat at the highest possible temperature that is still comfortable for you. A few degrees can make a big difference in your energy bill.
