Keep Everyone Comfortable and Save Money By Setting The Thermostat

No matter the size of the house, everyone has trouble keeping a comfortable temperature for everyone in the home. Monitoring the furnace and air conditioning thermostat throughout the year will help you ensure that everyone is comfortable while saving energy costs.

During the warmer summer months, the air conditioner thermostat should never be set below 78 degrees Fahrenheit. On the other hand, the setting should never be higher than 68 degrees Fahrenheit during the winter. By keeping these temperatures, you will maximize the energy savings of the household.

If people are uncomfortable, whether they're too hot or too cold, adjust the temperatures gradually. Raise or reduce the temperatures by just one degree at a time. Try this for a week. Each one-degree adjustment for an eight-hour period can reduce the energy bill costs significantly. Eventually you may be able to change the temperatures by three or four degrees and remain comfortable. This will help save a drastic amount of money.

For example, during the winter you can set the thermostat lower than 68 degrees, even getting it down to 65 degrees will greatly safe money. To counteract those who may be cold, dress in warm clothes. Wear wool socks in the home or invest in several blankets. In the long run, you'll save money without too much discomfort.

So if you are looking to cut costs on energy, make minor adjustments to the furnace and air conditioning thermostat.
